The Crime of Comfort

'No....no...not again!! Please don't do this'.... I stopped myself from falling for the comfort yet again this morning. As I wrap up the chores, fresh up, hold the smartphone with fully charged battery and move towards the dreadful pieces of furniture that have altered my posture and anatomy over the last one year.

The spacious and spongy cushion-laden couch strategically placed beside the window, was my favorite reading nook as it not only allowed me to sit but also facilitated to relax in a slightly inclined position, as the book got interesting. This also gave me a chance to just stare into the sky and project the story onto the clouds at times!! Totally a fairy-tale like pleasure... but with some strings, sorry layers of adipose attached!!

Then entered the second criminal, Table-mate, the multipurpose and work friendly modular table. Thanks to Tele-buy that has pushed its need onto the consumers by detailing the uses through a 5-minute ad looped and played on every TV channel. It obviously made its way into every other home in the city, as the company announced new deals, colors and features frequently. The convenience of browsing and working on the laptop while sitting on the cozy wooden couch was totally worth the investment.

Hours just slipped away reading, browsing and typing, with the ease of these newly added furnishings. The occasional shooting pain in the lower back due to the slouching and slanting sleeping positions on the sofa, was manageable with a few stretching exercises. I even winked away the cramps, numbness and tingling in the legs and the twinges at the back of neck as I became a permanent embellishment to the sofa-cum-bed, neighbored by the table. As I was segregating my old clothes yesterday, I came across a favorite dress among them. I tried it on for one last time and peeped into the mirror with the guilt of the mismatched fitting.... then it dawned on me and everything fell into place. Time for a quick resolution.... 'No...no more couch and Table-mate business!'

Really hard to part with my dearest partners in the crime...

The Balancing 'Act'

Why does the mention of 'work-life balance' seem like someone is screaming, 'I am going to work.... to let the earth stay in its orbit. So, Dear Earth-inhabitants! Please give me a break. I need to sleep for some more time!!'
Might be because I have been hearing it quite frequently these days, especially from the sleep-deprived lot.
In these cases, this 'balance' is directly related to the hours of sleep.... otherwise, isn't it true that the phrase comes handy to gain some brownie points in terms of level of exhaustion??!!
Isn't it true that we always make time for things we wish to do, one of them being our profession??!!
(Excuse me if my perception is wrong because there are always assumptions, exceptions and exemptions!!)
Disclaimer: Not intended at anyone....just a passing thought!!

The Tournament

As I enter my kids' bedroom, I find a bag made with plastic net, stuffed with some crumpled papers and a ziplock with a few rubber bands, hung from the handle of a shelf's door. Unable to understand what's going on in this corner of the house and not knowledgeable enough to conceive what the arrangement meant, I called Kaka, gestured my eyebrows towards it and asked him to explain. It went on this way..... He planned a tournament on Sunday with his friends, for which they need to practice for 5 days. He cut today's newspaper into 60 vertical strips and rolled each of them into something resembling a cigarette. The rolls are to be launched using the rubber bands, making a paper sling. He has to try and hit the target using 10 of them everyday during the warm-up period so that he can strike 10 on 10 on the D-day!! Pleasantly surprised on how much thought of the young minds goes into strategizing, preparing and Implementing a well-organized activity!! Inspired by the planning and conviction of the kids everytime I look at the hanging game kit!!

Insanity

Narrow-mindedness leading to insane behavior is the scariest thing in the world!! As the mind gets numbed by the goal to stick to the single point agenda and prove oneself right, the impatience, irritability and intolerance take the control. While some surrender to this insanity out of helplessness, others do so to just wade through the situation or just get rid of the eventualities. Some find no point in getting into argument. This feeds the irrationality, turns wild slowly; fading the difference between human and demon and the resulting actions and reactions scare the wits out of others!! So, timely and objective introspection into human and humane values is important to maintain the sanity of people holding strong perceptions, opinions and judgments on the so-called 'good' and 'bad' and 'dos' and 'don'ts' of their world
