The best memory of the festival dates back to 2004, when I started my
first job and went home with heavy luggage along with the box of sweets
from my employer. I wanted to totally change the wardrobe of my elders
and bought embroidered sarees for amma and my aunt, accessorized with
matching bangles from Laad Bazaar, Charminar. The shopping also included
a trendy shirt for nĂ anna(dad), new dress for my sister, t-shirt for my
brother and small gifts for my cousins and grandfather. The pride, pleasure and satisfaction of watching them in the new attire on Diwali day was priceless!!
The next memorable Diwali came after 8 years. My father-in-law had an
open-heart surgery and was back home before the festival. He was
recovering well and was able to walk till the door and stand for a short
period just in time to watch the kids burst crackers. The relief of
helping him wade through the health issues and then convalescing was
priceless too!!
Diwali has thus been lighting up my life with inner happiness and re-iterating the strength of having a big family. Hope Diwali has been and would be bringing the same spirit to everyone!
