Special Father's Day

As we rest on the sofa after dinner, Prithvi reads aloud the message from the class teacher

about Father's Day assembly the next morning. Naanna expresses his enthusiasm to take part in

the program. Three surprised faces and dropped jaws respond with 'Aaaaaa'!!

11 years into his kids' schooling, naanna has never been able to participate nor has shown any

interest in these things, as these have always been part of Amma's job description.

Nanna pesters Prithvi to post this interest on the classroom stream, as participation is allowed

on first-come first-serve basis. Then, outlines the points he wants to discuss, draws out a

timeline to groom himself before the 'talk' and has a sleepless night!

The D-day is here! Naanna espaces into the washroom early and springs out as a fresh flower

after 40 minutes wearing his favorite shirt. Roaming restlessly near Prithvi's workspace, he

rehearses the speech. Amma has a client call at the exact time and requests the children to

record the family miracle that is going to happen in a few minutes.

The teacher calls Prithvi's and his father's name. Under performance pressure, naanna forgets

all the instructions and starts the show. All amma could hear from the other room were words

from a confident voice and children emerging into laughter. Unable to withstand the excitement,

amma takes client's permission and quickly barges into Prithvi's room, only to hear teacher

saying, 'Sweet and simple one, Sir! Yes, Prithvi is very similar to you!' (and of course no video file

to replay)

Thus, this Father's Day has gathered importantce as a very sweet and special day for us! Hope

everyone celebrates the day in their own way, though not a single day goes without the busy

father showering his affection on the children in his own way!

Naanna - 15 years of Absence

Your ego may be the biggest thing for you,

You might insult me to save your sad 'you'

You can't intimidate me with your ego or it's outbursts,

As they only make you appear small and timorous!!

Shout, bark, threaten, screech, yawp;

Wear out, but remember you have to gulp!

Accept that you are just a little part of the planet,

You don't have the choice of being the only part!

If your hurt ego alerts you of feeding time,

Tuck the finger into your milk-toothed rim,

Go to that old nanny with her favorite cute dejected expression,

She might curse the rock that injured your self-admiration!

I am not here to do that duty for you,

I have a happening life to live!

We are in this world to live together as equals,

Let's not argue on who's right or has all the rights!

If you are strong, show me your personality trait,

I shall respect you for that being your highlight!

But, now I only pity you for always securing your hollow 'self',

Which has nothing to do with facts, truths or anything nonself!

We are after all those cobwebs stuck at the corner of the rooms,

Waiting to be cleared for the festival or cleaning times!

If you are stuck within the admiration for your own cobweb,

Pal, you are missing out on enjoying the world's widest web!

See around, we have more things to learn than building our ego,

We have more things to protect than guarding our ego!

We have more beautiful things to see than the growing ego,

We have more responsibility to life than exhibiting ego!
