15 years - The Story
15 years!! Got a lot to catch up with you!
My husband, as you've rightly remarked turned out to be a man of few words,
But is interestingly more confident of my abilities than myself as you!!
I have got two sons, the elder one with his sparkling eyes, sharp thinking,
Mocking mischief and with a significant 'Vijaya' is always an image of you!!
The younger one is always curious to know everything about the world,
And picks up the mustard seeds from his plate with the pointing finger like you!!
Your feeble Aravinda has grown into a strong, confident and healthy woman,
The only weakness left in her is to sheepishly declare often that she wants you!!
We have got her married to the man who seems to exactly fit into your choice,
He ensures that she is happy and loves her as unconditionally as you!!
Her first daughter gives a hard time to her, the way Aravinda used to do,
But we can't miss how she subtly and gently handles young children!! Just like you!!
Fire cracker of a young girl is her second daughter, smart enough to get everyone love her,
But guess what, her opinions are straightforward and thinking is as clear as you!!
That lazy Phani, whom you left when he was just a student, is not to be seen anymore.
Not only his quick-wit, but also the way he stresses over career futuristically is absolutely 'you'!!
Avanthi has been his very understanding partner and a capable value-addition to our family,
Would never think twice to match the stripes of pillow and bedspread or grasp every choice of 'you'!!
Young Sreshta would have been your idea of a good girl - warm, intelligent and ready to help,
She would have always been a company while having pulihora or chintakaaya pachadi, for you!!
We have been trying our best to keep Amma busy with our babies and worries,
But have never dared to ask if she has been able to cope up with the loss of you,
She has always been there for us, whenever and wherever we wanted her with us,
But has not distracted herself from the dedication she always has for God and you!!
Though we have managed to have a family photo with the backdrop of a photo of you,
How lucky we would have been to stand around amma and you to pose for the camera!!
Those memories of fighting with Karthikeya, sitting on a deewan littered by Prithvi,
Madhu trying to adorn your lips with gloss, Sloka explaining her 'surprise smell',
And Sreshta tying a make a small pony on your hair during vacation, could not be captured!
Though we have learnt to deal with the dilemmas and dissonances as adults through experience,
How fortunate we would have been to discuss every decision with that insightful part of you!!
After 15 years, the journey has become routine and schedules have turned totally crazy,
We have mastered the art of faking a smile and lying to each other that life is okay without you!!
